Continuum
noun
is something that keeps on going, changing slowly over time, like the continuum of the four seasons.For example, in a high school, at any time, there are students who are learning algebra, then advancing to geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Just as the ninth graders master their particular math, they move on to the next one, as new ninth graders enter the school and the seniors graduate.
Example: His motives for volunteering lie somewhere on the continuum between charitable and self-serving.

Defiance
noun
behavior in which you refuse to obey someone or something
Example: Early subculture theorists argue that DEFIANCE shown by working class young people against middle class 'norms' created groups who became synonymous with deviant behaviour (whether real or perceived) (Raby 2005:155 6; Cohen P 1972:91; Hodkinson 2004:137), and were especially noticeable at times of major social change (Downes and Rock 2004:161).

Flight or fight response
Phrase
is an automatic physiological reaction to an event that is perceived as stressful or frightening. The perception of threat activates the sympathetic nervous system and triggers an acute stress response that prepares the body to fight or flee.
Example: This fight or flight response is getting you ready to either get the threat away from you or ready to run away from it.

Malleability
noun
Is the quality of something that can be shaped into something else without breaking, like the malleability of clay.
Example: On the MALLEABILITY of automatic attitudes: Combating automatic prejudice with images of admired and disliked individuals.

Noun
is the brain's ability to change and adapt as a result of experience.
Example: This is known as neuroplasticity, and it’s how our brains develop through childhood and adolescence.

Phrase
Is the idea that societal poverty exists if there is a lack of human relationships.
